Peer Review Policy
Syamilah: Journal of Islamic Studies follows a rigorous peer review process to ensure the quality, validity, and integrity of the research articles we publish. Our peer review policy aims to provide constructive feedback to authors and uphold the highest academic standards.
1. Double-Blind Peer Review Process
- All manuscripts submitted to Syamilah undergo a double-blind peer review process, where the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential to ensure unbiased evaluation.
- The editorial team assigns submitted manuscripts to qualified reviewers with expertise in the relevant field. Reviewers are selected based on their research experience and subject-matter expertise related to the manuscript.
2. Reviewer Selection
- Reviewers are carefully selected to ensure impartial evaluation and to match their expertise with the subject of the manuscript.
- Selection is based on their qualifications, experience, and relevance to the topic under review.
- Syamilah encourages authors to suggest potential reviewers during the submission process; however, the final decision lies with the editorial team.
3. Reviewer Responsibilities
- Reviewers are expected to provide constructive, unbiased, and timely feedback on the manuscript’s scientific merit, methodology, clarity, and contribution to the field.
- Reviewers should disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may affect their objectivity and decline the review if necessary.
- The peer review process is confidential, and reviewers must not share or discuss the manuscript with others without explicit permission from the journal.
4. Reviewer Recommendations
- Reviewers are asked to give one of the following recommendations for each manuscript:
- Accept: The manuscript is of high quality and suitable for publication with minor or no revisions.

Minor Revisions: The manuscript requires minor revisions addressing specific reviewer comments.
- Major Revisions: The manuscript requires substantial revision and additional data or analysis before it can be considered for publication.
- Reject: The manuscript does not meet the journal’s standards or is outside the journal’s scope.
5. Author Response and Revision
- After receiving reviewer feedback, authors are given the opportunity to respond and revise the manuscript accordingly.

Authors must address all reviewer comments and provide a point-by-point response in a separate document during the revision process.
6. Editorial Decision
- Based on the reviewers’ comments and the revised manuscript, the editorial team makes the final decision regarding the acceptance, revision, or rejection of the manuscript.
- Authors will be notified of the editorial decision, and if accepted, they will receive further instructions on the production process and the applicable Article Processing Charge (APC).
7. Reviewer Anonymity and Confidentiality
- Syamilah maintains the confidentiality of the peer review process, and the identities of reviewers are not disclosed to authors.
- Reviewers are expected to respect the confidentiality of the manuscripts they review and not use any information for personal gain or in any way that could compromise the integrity of the review proce.
